Ellie Heath

Friday June 28

1:00 PM - 1:45 PM

For Ellie Heath, much of life has been defined by a fervent love for the stage. The Edmonton-based multidisciplinary artist’s debut EP SHINE (out Jun 20, 2024) explores “falling in love, falling out of love, and finding self-love.” Taking divergent pop-rock pathways with inspirations ranging from Tennis, Squirrel Flower, and Tim Baker to Alanis Morrissette, Sheryl Crow, and Counting Crows, SHINE’s upbeat tunes embrace theatre and inventive pop, its songs’ burdens and blessings dusted with layers of glitter and gloss.

SHINE’s “Enjoying the Ride” is a lighthearted bop, while Heath finds growth and clarity on the country-speckled “New Eyes.” “High Level” bounces on vintage keys, laid-back drums and fuzzy guitar streaks, and the sturdy alt-rock charge of “Better Off” has Heath proudly bidding an ex goodbye, catalyzing confidence while smouldering in steadiness. On winding riffs and shimmery tones “Shine” summons understanding and self-worth with a delicate, determined, light-bearing force. Through it all, Heath finds ways to soar.
