Artist Statement
Drawing can be a meditative practice that engages with the subconscious mind. Repetition of marks, shapes, and textures induces a trance-like state, dissolving boundaries between conscious and unconscious thought.
These works focus on the moment and are transitory. It is an intuitive process that involves rework, and erasure, intending to let go. Letting go of thoughts, emotions, and attachment to the outcome. Mark-making creates a free-flow connection between hand and brain, extracting information. A dream world surfaces, composed of images and narratives abstracted from reality.
A common underlying thread is a preoccupation with the collision between human industry/technology and nature. The drawings are abstract landscapes influenced by environmental observations, movies, and writings by authors such as Lao Tzu and Thoreau.
